Saltzman Member Austin Long Interviewed on PBS NewsHour
March 29, 2012
Austin Long, a Member of the Saltzman Institute and an Assistant Professor at SIPA, was interviewed for an episode of PBS NewsHour which addressed the possible outcome of an Israeli military strike on Iranian nuclear facilities. Dr. Long has been a prominent voice in the Iran issue at least since his 2007 paper in International Security, "Osirak Redux? Assessing Israeli Capabilities to Destroy Iranian Nuclear Facilities", and more recently published an assessment of the possibility of an Israeli operation delaying Iran's nuclear program in Tablet. In this interview, Dr. Long outlines the difficulty of bombing Iran's Fordow facility, which is built into the side of a mountain and would take "75 or more" precisely targetted 5,000-pound bombs to penetrate.
Dr. Long's article in Tablet can be accessed here.
The transcript and video of the PBS NewsHour episode are available here.
