Gideon Rose
Dr. Gideon Rose is the Managing Editor of Foreign Affairs and an Affiliate at the Arnold A. Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies at Columbia University. His areas of expertise include international conflict; the Middle East, the Persian Gulf, and South Asia; terrorism; and economic sanctions.
Rose has previously served as Olin Senior Fellow and Deputy Director of National Security Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), during which time he chaired the CFR’s Roundtable on Terrorism and directed numerous CFR study groups. Prior to that, Rose served as Associate Director for Near East and South Asian Affairs on the staff of the National Security Council. He has also worked as assistant editor at both The National Interest and The Public Interest and has taught courses in American foreign policy at Columbia and Princeton Universities.
Rose received a B.A. from Yale University and a Ph.D. from Harvard University.
