Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies. His current research interests include international institution design, global governance, international regulation, democratic accountability, and domestic-international linkages. Urpelainen specializes in international cooperation and political economy; his research draws on game-theoretic methodology.
Urpelainen received a B.A. and an M.A. from the University of Tampere. He received a Ph.D. from the University Michigan.
