Stuart Gottlieb is an Adjunct Professor of International and Public Affairs at the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) and an Affiliate at the Arnold A. Saltzman Institute of War and Peace Studies at Columbia University.  At SIPA, Gottlieb teaches courses on U.S. foreign policy and terrorism.  He also holds a teaching position at Yale University.

Prior to joining SIPA in 2003, Gottlieb worked for nearly five years in the United States Senate, first as senior foreign policy advisor to Senator Charles E. Schumer of New York and subsequently as policy advisor and chief speechwriter for Senator Christopher J. Dodd of Connecticut.  He has also worked on several political campaigns, including New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani's reelection campaign in 1997 and Vice President Al Gore’s presidential campaign in 2000.  Between 2003 and 2007 Gottlieb was a senior partner of Prides Crossing Executive Communication, LLC, a speechwriting and communications consulting firm based in New York City which he co-founded.

Gottlieb holds a B.A. in political science and journalism from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and two M.A. degrees and a Ph.D. in international relations from Columbia University.
